Your membership dues will help us:

  • Work towards the recognition of interpretation as an academic discipline and as a profession
  • Support implementation and improvement of interpretation certification process
  • Unite interpreters working in all settings for the public so that the profession grows stronger
  • Further improve on professional standards of practice that define acceptable interpreting practice for interpreters working for the public
  • Support future and current interpreters to meet these professional standards
  • Collaborate in defining the requirements for education prior to the certification examination, and post certification professional development

Students of Interpretation Dues:  $75.00 yearly

 

Who can become a member of the American Interpreters Association?

  • You hold a certification in interpretation granted by the National Center for State Courts, the Administrative Office of the United States Court, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, and/or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters

AND /OR

  • You hold a graduate certificate in interpretation granted by any recognized educational institution in the United States or equivalent abroad

AND /OR

  • You hold a Masters and/or Doctorate degree granted by any recognized educational institution in the United States or equivalent abroad;

AND /OR

  • You are a professional interpreter and there is no oral examination for your language combination

AND /OR

  • You have passed the written exam given by the National Center for State Courts, the Administrative Office of the United States Court, the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters, and/or the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
